Presence of neuropathology among a sample of individuals with bipolar Lead Investigator: Ben Peckham Institution : University of Calgary E-Mail : stephen.peckham@ucalgary.ca Proposal ID : 1647 Proposal Description: The requested data will be used to generate descriptive statistics of a sample of individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder (BD) who also have autopsy data available. Basic demographics (i.e., sex, age at death, age at final assessment prior to death, ethnicity) will be reported as well as the cognitive status and the relative frequency of Alzheimer???s disease (AD), vascular dementia (VaD), hippocampal sclerosis (HS), Lewy Body disease (LBD), and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) from the sample???s last visit before death. The proposed study will elucidate the relatively unknown area of neuropathological development of the aging brain affected by BD. The findings may yield important implications for clinicians and researchers in understanding the long-term cognitive progression of individuals with BD as they progress into later life.
